- These four were chosen because each pairs cleanly with a single train or bus line from Lisbon — no overnight repacking, no wasted transit days.
- Tomar is the one guests are consistently most surprised by — it has the scale of a Sintra palace with almost none of the crowd.
- Go to Óbidos early. By late morning it fills with coach-tour day-trippers and loses a lot of its charm.
- If you only have 3 days instead of 4, drop Setúbal first — Óbidos/Nazaré, Aveiro and Tomar are the strongest trio.
